Gateways
There have been 'gateways' and 'hubs' chosen throughout Ireland to drive development in all regions equally.
The word gateway is used to describe an area considered to be an “engine of growth”. These areas of already steady development are chosen to drive the development of the rest of the regions they are a part of.
At regional level the NSS chose certain cities and large towns and named them ‘gateways’. The nine chosen gateways are:
- Dublin
- Waterford
- Cork
- Limerick/Shannon
- Galway
- Sligo
- Dundalk
- Letterkenny(/Derry)
- Athlone/Mullingar/Tullamore (The Midlands gateway)
